Coconut Chutney


Coconut chutney from south India is a great condiment. Best known for being served along with Dosa or Idli, Vada. Very delicious and adds to the taste of food.

Here is very super quick & very easy recipe.

Coconut – ½ (grated or chopped into small pieces)

Green chili – 1

Green coriander – 2 tablespoon

Curry leaves – 4

Chatni dal – 4 tablespoon

Ginger – ½ teaspoon

Garlic – 1

Salt per taste

For tempering:

Oil – 1 tablespoon

Mustard seeds (rai or sarson)– ½ teaspoon

Urad split dal (black split dal skin less) – ½ teaspoon

Curry leaves 4-5

Whole red chili – 1


  • Grind coconut, green chili and coriander and chatni dal, curry leaves, ginger, garlic along with salt to a smooth consistency.
  • Transfer to the serving bowl.
  • Now heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, whole red chili, urad dal, curry leaves, when they splitter, turn off the heat.
  • Now pour this tempering over the chutney. Serve.

Note: This chutney can be served with Idli or Dosai, Vada. Enjoy the savory taste!
