Beetroot is one of the healthy veggies. It is a common veggie in a south Indian kitchen.

Here is a delicious beetroot dish, which is very easy & quick to make. Here beets are cooked with onions, garlic & curry leaves. Try out.

Step-by-Step Easy & Quick Recipe –

Beetroot – 2 Large (peeled and grated or chopped)

Onion – 1 large (finely chopped)

Garlic cloves – 2-3 (minced)

Curry leaves – 5-6

Fresh green coriander – 2 tablespoon

Coconut – 2 tablespoon (grated)

Salt as per taste

Turmeric powder – 1/8 teaspoon

Whole dried red chili – 2

Urad dal (split white lentils) – ½ teaspoon

Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon

Cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon

Asafetida – 1 big pinch

Oil – 2 tablespoon


  • Heat oil in a wok or large pan and add cumin seeds, asafetida, curry leaves, whole dried red chili, urad dal and mustard seeds, when they start spluttering, add onion and garlic.
  • When the onions starts turning golden brown add the grated beets with salt & turmeric powder. Cover and fry for 10-15 minutes until the beets are cooked and tender. In case while frying the beets get too dry, add little water.
  • Now mix grated coconut & green coriander and transfer to a serving dish.

Note: Serve hot with chapatti, roti or rice, serves well as a side dish. Yummy!
