Cabbages are multi-layered veggies; they come in green or purple colors. We cook cabbage in many ways but this one is really very simple, easy, quick and very delicious, its surely is worth a try.
This south Indian style cabbage dish is cooked with green chili, ginger & curry leaves and is tempered with cumin & mustard seeds and garnished with grated coconut.

Cabbage – 1 ½ cup (finely sliced or shredded)
Ginger – 1 inch (peeled & grated)
Green chili – 2 9finely chopped)
Curry leaves – 5-6
Cumin seeds – ¼ teaspoon
Mustard – ¼ teaspoon
Salt per taste
Turmeric powder – one pinch
Coconut – 2 tablespoon (finely grated)
Oil – 2 tablespoon
- Finely shred the cabbage and wash, rinse properly, let it stand for some time & dry so no water is left in it.
- Now heat oil in a pan and add cumin & mustard seeds & curry leaves, when they splutter then add green chili & ginger, fry for 2-3 minutes till aromatic.
- Now add cabbage, salt & turmeric powder, cover and cook till cabbage is soft & tender. If it gets dry then add little water.
- When the cabbage is done, sprinkle and spread the grated coconut over it.
Note: Transfer to a serving plate and serve hot with chapatti or rice. It is yummy!
