Moong dal or Yellow moong lentils are one of the easiest cooked and light to eat dal. There are a lot of ways to cook this dal too but for Jain cuisine it is cooked in a very simple yet extremely delicious way. Very easy and very quick recipe.

Try this Satvik dal, here yellow moong dal is cooked with tomatoes and spices with a nice tempering of cumin seeds, asafetida & curry leaves, Yummy!

Step-by-Step Easy & Quick Recipe –

Ingredients:

Yellow Moong Dal – ½ cup

Tomato – medium 1 (finely chopped)

Curry leaves – 5-6

Fresh green coriander – 2 tablespoon

Lemon – 1 tablespoon (juice without seeds)

Salt per taste

Cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon

Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon

Coriander powder – ½ teaspoon

Red chili powder – ½ teaspoon

Garam masala – ½ teaspoon

Asafetida – ¼ teaspoon

Ghee (clarified butter) – 2 tablespoon

Water – 1¼ cup

Instructions:

  • Wash and soak moong dal for at least 1 hour and then either pressure-cook or cook in open pan with water till they are soft and tender. If the cooked dal consistency is thick, then add some more water to fix it. Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a wok or pan and add cumin seeds, asafetida & curry leaves. When the cumin seeds splutter add chopped tomatoes, fry for 3-4 minutes till tomatoes become soft and tender. Now add salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder and garam masala and mix well.
  • Now add boiled dal to this tomato mix and boil for another 3-4 minutes. Add lemon juice and mix well. Garnish with fresh green coriander.

Note: Serve this delicious satvik hot moong dal with rice or chapatti. Enjoy!
