Matar-Paneer Curry

Paneer (cottage cheese), well mostly every one likes it, especially for vegetarians. This is like a everyday dish in most of the kitchens. Peas (matar) too is a hot favorite so when the combo of paneer & peas is cooked then the result is amazing.

In this dish paneer and peas are cooked in onion-tomato gravy along with spices.Try out!

Ingredients:

Cottage cheese (Paneer) – 750 grams (cubed)

Peas – 400 grams (pre half-boil in salt water & drained and shocked & kept in cold water)

Onion – 2 large (puree)

Ginger – ½ teaspoon (paste)

Garlic cloves – 3 (puree)

Green chili – 2 (finely chopped)

Tomato – 3 large (pureed)

Fresh green coriander – 2 tablespoon

Salt per taste

Cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon

Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon

Coriander powder – ½ teaspoon

Red chili powder – ½ teaspoon

Garam masala powder – ½ teaspoon

Olive oil or vegetable oil – 2 tablespoon

Water – 2 cups

Fresh cream – 2 tablespoon (optional)

Instructions:

  • Heat oil in a wok or a large pan & add cumin seeds. When they splutter, add onion-garlic-ginger paste along with chopped green chili. Fry for 8-10 minutes till onion & masala color starts becoming brown.
  • Now add tomato puree and salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder & garam masala powder. Mix well and fry till the oil starts separating from masala.
  • Now add paneer cubes and drained peas. Mix well and fry for 1-2 minutes. Now add water and simmer at low heat for 8-10 minutes till the flavor of masala blends well with paneer peas. The curry consistency can be adjusted per choice, if its too thick, some more water can be added. Mix fresh cream.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh chopped green coriander.

Note: Serve hot with chapatti, roti, naan, rice or any bread of your choice. Enjoy!
