Spinach is one of the green leafy vegetables we all like to include in our diet; it can be cooked in so many different ways.Have you ever tried the crispy fried one?
I saw this recipe while my stay in Indonesia and also had a couple of times at my friends place there; I like it very much and often make it as a side dish or an appetizer. It looks great served on the table.
Here the spinach is very finely sliced (chiffonade) and then fried with onion & garlic and seasoned with salt, chili flakes & garnished with toasted white sesame. The result is yummy. try out!

Fresh Spinach – 500 grams (washed and cleaned properly a few times)
Garlic cloves 3 (finely chopped)
Onion – small 1 (finely shopped)
Toasted white sesame – 1 tablespoon
Salt per taste
Oil – 1 teaspoon + for deep frying
- Take spinach leaves and layer them on top of each other, now roll them and thinly slice them starting from one end to the other, basically chiffonade them.
- Now heat oil in a deep pan or wok and add the sliced spinach and deep fry, once they become dark green in color and the leave slices wilt and become short and it is cooked and crispy, take out and place on a plate with paper towel, so that excess oil is removed.
- In another pan now heat a teaspoon of oil and add finely chopped onion & garlic. When the onion starts to become golden, add salt & chili flakes.
- Transfer to a serving plate and garnish with toasted white sesame.
Note Crispy crunchy spinach is ready and can be served as a side dish or as an appetizer, enjoy!
