Yoghurt (Dahi) is known to be a part of most of the meals, right from breakfast till dinner. It is nutritionally rich in calcium & vitamins. Yoghurt comes in many flavors; this one is called shrikhand and is very easy to do at home dessert. It comes mainly from the states of Gujarat & Maharashtra in India.

Well, for me yoghurt is a any time food right from breakfast till dessert. It is known to be quite a hit during fasting time too and is known as “faraali food” (fasting food). Let’s try out and enjoy this delicious & easy yoghurt dessert.

Yoghurt – 1 kg (thick without water in it)

Sugar – ¾ cup (powder)

Saffron – 6-7 strands (soaked in 1 teaspoon of warm milk)

Cardamom powder – ¼ teaspoon

Almonds – 6 (chopped or sliced & toasted)

Pistachio – 8-10  (chopped or sliced & toasted)

Chironjee seeds (Buchanania lanzan) – 1 tablespoon


  • For making Shrikhand really thick curd without water in it is needed so its best that the yoghurt can be put in a clean muslin cloth and hung inside the refrigerator till water is out and it is completely chilled.
  • Take out the yoghurt from refrigerator and in a mixing bowl; mix gently with sugar, saffron & cardamom powder.
  • Transfer to serving bowls and garnish with toasted almonds & pistachios & chironjee seeds. Serve chilled.
