Paneer butter masala is a very famous North Indian vegetarian rich creamy dish, which is extremely popular and is mostly a part of occasions, weddings or party’s menu.
In this recipe the gravy is made with whole spices, onion, ginger-garlic sautéed with tomato and purred together. Then paneer cooked in this delicious puree. Topped with cream. The taste is super Yummy!

Paneer (cottage cheese) – 500 grams (cut into large rectangles or triangles per choice or simply diced)
Onion – medium 1 (sliced)
Tomato – medium 5-6
Ginger – 1 teaspoon
Garlic – 1 teaspoon
Green chili – 1
Fresh green coriander – 2 tablespoon
Butter – 4 tablespoon
Cream – ¼ cup
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Salt per taste
Cumin powder – ½ teaspoon
Kasoori Methi (dried fenugreek) – ½ teaspoon (crushed)
Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
Whole coriander – 1 tablespoon (crushed)
Red chili powder – ¼ teaspoon
Bay leaf – 2 (medium size)
Cinnamon – 1-inch 2 pieces
Cloves – 2
Dried red chili – 2 (broken, seeds less)
Water – ½ cup
- Heat 3-tablespoon butter and 1-teaspoon oil in large pan or wok. Add cumin powder, dried whole red chilies, bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, crushed coriander seeds and sauté on medium heat for 30-40 seconds.
- Now add onion and fry for another minute and after that add ginger & garlic paste, sauté further for another minute. Now add tomato, green chili, red chili powder & coriander powder. Now cook till oil separates from masala. Take off heat and puree the mixture in a blender.
- Heat remaining butter of butter in a pan and add the puree and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add paneer pieces and salt, mix well and add water. Cover and cook on low heat for 5-6 minutes.
- Stir in kasoori methi now and mix gently, avoiding breaking of paneer pieces and cook for another 30-40 seconds, take off heat and add cream. Mix well. Garnish with fresh green coriander.
Note: Incredible delicious Paneer Butter Masala can be served with roti, naan, chapatti or rice. Bon Apatite!
