40 mins                  15 mins                55mins           36 cookies

Ingredients:

All-purpose flour – 1 cup (sifted)

Sugar – ¼ cup

Butter – ½ cup (salted, if butter is unsalted then add a pinch of salt to the dough)

Fruit jam – ¼ cup (any flavor per choice)

Vanilla extract – ½ teaspoon (optional)

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 190°C (375° F). Prepare a cookie sheet.
  • In a mixer add sugar and butter and mix & cream it well to make it fluffy & light. Now add the already sifted all-purpose flour & vanilla extract, mix well so everything blends well together into nice and smooth dough.
  • Now make 1-inch balls from this dough and place on cookie sheet. Press and make a thumb impression in the center. The indentation should be of about ½ inch depth. Now fill in your favorite preserves or jam into it.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes till they turn golden brown on the edges. Take out of oven and cool on the wire rack. Serve once at room temperature.

Note: While adding jam or preserve, take care that the filling is not too much as while baking the jam will heat up & boil and will pour out, once the cookies cool down the jam becomes form again. Delicious jam or preserve filled thumbprint cookies are ready, serve with a hot cup of tea, coffee or a warm cup of milk. Enjoy!
