Nimona is a traditional common dish from Uttar Pradesh, where a dal like thick curry is called nimona. Well this classic every day winter dish which is usually best done with fresh peas, it is normally paired with potato or mangodi or soya nuggets etc. but I tried to pair the peas or matar nimona this time with paneer (cottage cheese).

Here we will first boil the fresh peas and then grind them and cook them with spices & add yoghurt to make a thick curry, basically it will be green colored curry with paneer cubes in it, it is delicious, try out!

Also add salt, turmeric powder, garam masala and ground peas and sauté for 4-5 minutes till peas are done and then add whisked smooth yoghurt. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Add paneer cubes and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Add ghee & fresh coriander. If the curry consistency is too thick, you can add some water. Serve hot.

Note: Matar-Paneer Nimona can be served with chapatti, roti, naan or rice & pulao. Yummy!

If you wish to cook with onions, you can then add onions first before adding ginger and sauté till onions are translucent, then add ginger-green chili etc. Also if don’t wish to use yoghurt then add more tomato puree instead.. Frozen peas can be used also in case fresh peas are not available, but fresh peas will any day taste better.

Happy Cooking!!
