Café au lait in French means coffee with milk, but it is different than white coffee. This is a very simply done coffee but the taste is excellent and is very comforting to have a hot cup of this coffee.
Easy to do, just boil together the cream, milk, sugar and vanilla and pour over in the cup with brewed coffee. Yum!

Whole milk – 1 ½ cup
Brewed coffee – 3 cups (hot, strong, like dark French roast or chicory blend etc.)
Half & half cream – 1 ½ cup
Sugar to taste
Vanilla extract – 2 teaspoon
- In a saucepan add half & half cream, sugar & milk and bring to a boil and simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes. Whisk well for 1-2 minutes so it becomes frothy. Take off heat.
- Now add ½ cup of brewed hot coffee and ½ cup of cream-milk mixture to the serving cup and serve immediately.
Note: Delicious hot café Au Lait is ready to be served, enjoy with your choice of cookies or biscotti. Yummy!
