Like any other pastry cream, orange pastry cream is also delicious & tastes heavenly when filled in pastries, puffs, etc. Orange flavor cream tastes incredible delicious with choco crepes. if you need a brighter orange color then edible color can be added too.
Its again a very easily doable at home pastry cream. The process is very similar to making vanilla pastry cream with inclusion of orange zest & orange extract, yum!
Step-by-Step Easy & Quick Recipe –

Whole milk – 1 ¼ cup
Egg yolks – 3
Sugar – ¼ cup (granulated)
All-purpose flour – 1 tablespoon
Corn starch – 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons
Orange zest – 1 teaspoon
Orange extract – ½ teaspoon
Vanilla extract – ½ teaspoon
- In a saucepan, add and warm together milk and orange zest, till the point where steam starts building up. While milk is warming up whisk together egg yolks, cornstarch, sugar & flour in a mixing bowl, whisk till it becomes smooth.
- Once the milk reaches the steaming point, add half quantity to the egg mixture and whisk well and strongly to avoid any lumps. Now add this mixture to the remaining quantity of milk stirring continuously & vigorously on medium heat till a thick creamy texture is attained for the pastry cream, take care not to burn it.
- Now take off heat and add vanilla extract and orange extract, now to cool down this pastry cream, transfer to a bowl and keep that bowl in a larger bowl or vessel filled with ice for 30 minutes, then refrigerate it for 4 hours till completely chilled.
- To cool the pastry cream cover the bowl with plastic wrap, press the plastic wrap down to the surface of the cream so no air gets in, to avoid forming a skin at the top.
Note: Delicious orange pastry cream is ready and can be used per choice as a filling for any kind of pastry. This can be stored in refrigerator up to 2-3 days. Enjoy the flavor!
