Khoya Matar


Khoya is a milk based dairy product. Normally in India it is widely used in making sweets or desserts but this particular dish is done with tomatoes, peas & spices. It is very easy to make, delicious & rich dish.

To make this khoya matar sauté khoya first and then cook with peas, tomato & spices, the result is a creamy, buttery & highly rich dish. Try this!

Khoya – 250 grams

Peas – 1 cup (shelled, boiled)

Tomato – 1 cup (pureed)

Ginger – 1 teaspoon (paste)

Green chili – 1 (chopped)

Fresh green coriander – 2 tablespoon

Salt to taste

Cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon

Red chili powder – ½ teaspoon

Coriander powder – ½ teaspoon

Fennel powder – ½ teaspoon

Turmeric powder (optional)

Garam masala – ½ teaspoon

Ghee – 2 tablespoons


  • Heat ghee in a non-stick pan and add cumin seeds, when they splutter, add khoya, cook stirring continuously for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add ginger, green chili, tomato, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder (optional), coriander powder and fennel powder and water, mix well and simmer on low heat for 4-5 minutes.
  • Now add peas & garam masala. Cook further for 3-4 minutes till everything blends well. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh coriander, serve hot.

Note: Delicious khoya matar can be served as a side dish with roti, chapatti, naan or even rice. Enjoy!
