Lauki Ka Halwa

Lauki ka halwa (bottle gourd pudding) is another one of the Navratri dishes, which can be, also is used at other times as a common dessert. Extremely delicious healthy & easy to make halwa is a good choice for fasting people.

To make this halwa or pudding all you need to do is to cook milk and bottle gourd together with ghee & sugar, the result is amazing so try this pudding & enjoy with family & friends!

Lauki (bottle gourd) – 4 cups (peeled & grated)

Milk – 1 ¼ cup

Khoya – 4 tablespoons

Sugar – 2 cups or per taste

Pistachio – 8-10 pieces (sliced)

Ghee (clarified butter) – ½ cup


  • In a large saucepan add grated bottle gourd and ghee, cook for 5-6 minutes. Now add milk and once milk reaches boiling point add sugar and simmer on medium or low heat till ghee separates from the halwa mixture & the lauki is all soft & tender.
  • Now add khoya and mix well. Check & adjust the sugar taste. Add pistachio and mix well.

Note: Serve hot or at room temperature, garnish with some chopped dry nuts (almonds & cashewnuts) if desire. Enjoy!
