Yoghurt Rice


Rice and yoghurt are every day food for a lot of people around the world but in India a lot of people like to eat rice mixed with yoghurt on regular basis, especially if you want some quick comfort food or looking for a very light diet which is highly soothing for stomach and very easily digestible too. There are many variations of this yoghurt rice.

We have a great recipe from Celebrity Chef Hari Ghotra of yoghurt rice. Very easy and super quick to cook, this can be ready in just minutes and you can have a great meal. Try this and you can you can cook this for your family any time. It’s a perfect blend of Greek yoghurt, cooked rice & a nice flavorful tempering. So try this!

Cooked rice – 1 cup

Yoghurt – 3 tablespoon

Mustard oil – 1 tablespoon

Shallots, finely sliced – 2

 For Tempering:

Mustard oil – 1 tablespoon

Asafetida – ¼ teaspoon

Dry red chili – 2

Curry leaves – 15




  • Cook and cool some rice (basmati rice is an option).
  • Heat the oil in a pan and stir in the chopped shallots, cook on a gentle heat for about five minutes to soften them. Try not to let them color. Leave to cool.
  • Once cooled stir in the Greek yoghurt and the cooked shallots.


  • Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the asafetida, curry leaves, dried chilies and salt. Roast for a few seconds then pour over the rice.
  • Stir the tempering through the rice and serve.

Note: Delicious yoghurt rice is ready to serve. It’s a perfect light food which is very satisfying as a complete meal, enjoy. Bon Apatite!
